The KREUL brand has been making history since 1838, when artist and inventor Carl Kreul founded it in Hallerndorf, Bavaria. It is Germany’s oldest paint factory for artists, and today, more than 185 years later, it is still a family business, now in its fourth generation under the leadership of Dr. Florian Hawranek.

History of the KREUL Brand

Carl Kreul developed a paint-grinding machine that made it possible to produce oil paints in consistent quality and industrial quantities, a revolution for its time. Almost 160 years later, the brand changed the world of creative arts again with the invention of Window Color, glass paints that became a global phenomenon.

Today, KREUL is best known as a manufacturer of safe paints for kids (the MUCKI line), Javana fabric paints, and a wide range of art and hobby paints. All products are still made in Hallerndorf, Bavaria.
