About this category
In short

An ARTMiE paint by numbers kit contains a 320 g/m² cotton canvas with numbered areas, pre-mixed acrylic paints in pots, brushes, a reference picture and instructions. Choose by difficulty (low or medium; with Premium Gold you also gild with metallic leaf), by size and by whether you want the canvas stretched on a frame or unframed.

Paint by numbers is a picture on real artist’s canvas that you paint by following the numbers in each area – no previous painting experience needed. Paint by numbers on canvas is popular with adults and complete beginners alike; put simply, it’s a color-by-numbers book for grown-ups, only on real canvas – some people also call it drawing by numbers. ARTMiE kits differ in difficulty, size and whether you want the canvas framed or unframed. Hang the finished painting on your wall or give it as a gift.

Which difficulty level should you choose?

Difficulty Who it’s for Example designs
Low according to the manufacturer, anyone can do it regardless of painting skills; ideal for beginners Angel · Horse Majesty · Giraffe · A Gift in Paris
Medium more of a challenge than low – the levels differ in the number of areas and the complexity of the picture – but without a desperate battle with the details Flowers in Glass · Elephant · Parrot · Bridge in Budapest
Premium Gold alongside the painting, you apply metallic leaf to the picture with adhesive; the manufacturer describes it as the next step up Among the Trees · Birch Forest · Turquoise Fantasy

Paint by numbers on canvas – framed or unframed?

For most designs you can choose a variant. A stretched canvas on a frame is ready to paint and to hang – the canvas is stretched over a frame made of spruce stretcher bars. With the unframed variant, you get the canvas unstretched; the complete painting kit is included in both cases. You can see the exact sizes and variants on each design. The most common sizes are 40 × 60, 50 × 50 and 60 × 40 cm, and some designs also come in 80 × 80 cm. If you want to stretch the canvas later, you’ll find frames in the stretcher bars and stretcher frames category.

What’s in a paint by numbers kit

  • 100% cotton canvas, 320 g/m², primed with acrylic gesso, with pre-printed numbered areas
  • acrylic paints in pots (3 ml each in standard kits), mixed specifically for your picture
  • brushes, a reference picture and painting instructions

The paints are ready to use – the manufacturer doesn’t recommend thinning them with water, as this could reduce their opacity.
