Wax crayons – also known as wax pastels or wax colors – are crayons made of colored wax for drawing, coloring in and shading on paper and card. JOVI Triwax, Jumbo and My First teddy bear crayons have no wrapper: the whole crayon is made of colored wax.

Wax crayons for glass, mirrors and the bath

JOVI Jovidecor Glass gel crayons draw on windows, mirrors, glass containers and ceramics, but aren’t intended for paper. The crayon twists up out of its plastic barrel, the tip can be sharpened and you can wipe the drawing off with a dry or damp cloth.

Colorino bath crayons in 9 shades are for tiles, the bathtub, mirrors and glass. They have a plastic body with a twist-up mechanism, so they’re easy to use even with wet hands, and you can remove the drawings with ordinary detergent.

What wax pastels can do on paper

Triwax crayons leave a smooth, rich, opaque stroke, and Jumbo a rich, opaque stroke on both paper and card. The manufacturer recommends both types for shading, layering colors and scratch techniques (sgraffito), and Triwax also for coloring in larger areas. You can sort the shavings from sharpening Jumbo crayons and use them for a mosaic collage.

According to the manufacturer, the teddy-bear-shaped JOVI My First crayons are suitable from age 3, triangular Triwax for preschool and younger school-age children, and chunky JOVI Jumbo crayons are designed as first crayons for the youngest children at nursery and in the first years of primary school.

What’s the difference between colored pencils and wax crayons?

JOVI Triwax, Jumbo and My First crayons are made entirely of colored wax with no wooden casing. This means Triwax gets used up completely and doesn’t break if dropped in normal use.

Can wax crayons be sharpened?

Yes. You can sharpen Triwax crayons with an ordinary sharpener, and JOVI Jumbo sets come with a sharpener designed for the larger diameter. The 72-piece Triwax tub also includes a sharpener, and according to the manufacturer, a single Jovicolor 12 mm crayon is easy to sharpen to a point. The tip of the Jovidecor Glass gel crayons can be sharpened too.

How do you get wax crayon out of clothes?

You can remove JOVI Jumbo and Triwax crayon stains from fabric by hand washing with ordinary soap.

Are wax crayons for kids non-toxic?

According to the manufacturer, Disney Stitch crayons are non-toxic. According to the descriptions, JOVI Triwax in various shades, Jumbo, My First, Jovicolor 12 mm and Jovidecor Glass meet the EN 71 standard. For the Jovicolor crayon, the manufacturer also warns that it isn’t intended for use on skin and must not be swallowed.
