Customer reviews
An excellent retouching varnish with just the right amount of shine. It applied evenly and dried evenly.
Such a nice product. No throwing away varnishing brushes, no messy cleanup. Great.
I’ve used this product throughout my career, and I’m grateful it’s available again.
I use it to touch up areas in paintings where the paint has soaked in and the sheen is uneven.
I use Liquin Original all the time. It’s absolutely essential in my studio. It gives oil paint a beautiful finish, somewhere between matte and glossy, with a subtle sheen that really makes the colors stand out. It speeds up drying significantly. My paintings are usually dry to the touch in about two days, which works perfectly for me. I can’t work without it.
Since oil paint has a thick consistency for working with a palette knife, it’s essential to be able to thin it to a fluid consistency for brush painting and details. Liquin is perfect for this. You can use it for thin, translucent washes or add different amounts to make the paint easier to apply. It also speeds up drying, which is more noticeable with dark pigments.
After using a matte varnish from another brand and finding it too flat for my paintings, I decided to try Liquitex Satin Varnish. It has a nice, fluid consistency that goes on easily and evenly with a flat brush. The satin finish is really nice and complements the colors underneath without reflecting too much light. I’ll definitely keep using it.
I’d never used varnish before, so I didn’t know if I’d like the result. I couldn’t tell it was even there, which was perfect for me. It went on smoothly and easily. I’ll definitely use it to finish my acrylic paintings in the future, too.
I’ve tried many different acrylic varnishes over the years. Liquitex is currently my first choice. It dries quickly and has a nice matte finish.
