DALER ROWNEY D&R Artist Black Gesso is a quality primer for artists and students preparing their own painting surfaces. It creates a slightly absorbent, flexible, adhesive surface on canvas, wood, or paper, improving coverage and the overall longevity of the painting. Its black shade gives you a bold, dark base for acrylic paints and oil paints.

You can thin the thick consistency with water as needed. Apply the gesso with a brush or roller in one or more thin coats, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. For a perfectly smooth surface, you can lightly sand the dried primer. Simply wash your tools with clean water immediately after use.
