GOLDEN Pastel Ground Acrylic Ground for Soft Pastels
GOLDEN Pastel Ground is an acrylic ground that dries to a finely abrasive, grainy surface with a good tooth for dry media. It is designed for artists working with acrylics and dry techniques to prepare canvas, wood, or paper. Thanks to its finely ground silica sand, it captures pigment from pastels, charcoal, and pencils perfectly, allowing you to build layers without prematurely filling the surface texture.

Use and application
This ground prepares canvas, wood, and paper for soft pastels, charcoal, pencils, and other dry techniques. Because it contains a high proportion of solids, it is thick, so dilute it with water (approximately 20–40%) before applying, and mix only as much as you need for that day. Apply with a brush, roller, or palette knife in one or two coats. First roughen non-absorbent surfaces and prepare them with gesso.
Frequently asked questions
Can GOLDEN Pastel Ground be tinted? Yes, you can tint the ground by mixing in acrylic paint.
Why does the ground need to be diluted with water? It is thick because it contains a high proportion of solids. Diluting it with water (approx. 20–40%) makes it easier to apply evenly.
