Schmincke AEROPUMP Spray Fixative for Charcoal and Pencil 350 ml

This is an effective final fixative from the quality brand Schmincke, intended primarily for charcoal and pencil. It is made from bleached shellac and non-yellowing synthetic resin with an alcohol base. It can also be used on pastels when applied sparingly. Thanks to its higher resin content, it fixes more strongly than pastel fixative, but it can also increase color intensity.

How to use:

Shake well before use. Spray at room temperature after a test spray, increasing pressure by moving the can from side to side and from top to bottom. Hold the can about 40 cm from the completely dry object, positioned vertically or at a slight angle. Move the spray head regularly. With AEROPUMP products, the spray is less dispersed than with AEROSPRAY products.

The gloss level depends on the absorbency of the surface, the application technique, and the thickness of the film. Sometimes medium fixation of the artwork is useful. Subsequent fixation of the surface of an artwork made using materials with a low binder content, such as charcoal or pencil, can significantly darken the color shade. Using too much fixative often causes a loss of “lightness.” The product can also make a substrate, such as paper, more transparent. In practice, commonly used fixative layers do not provide any special UV protection. For this reason, we recommend using high-quality, lightfast art paints from the start. Any clogged spray heads are best cleaned with alcohol/ethanol.
